Valentine's Day is Tomorrow...

Just in case you have been living under a rock the last few weeks, Valentine's Day is tomorrow.  Here are a few tips from MarketWatch to help you not screw up your Valentine's gift giving.
1. Give a surprise or an experience: Surprise here with a trip, a theater date, dinner or even a pottery class.
2. Give your gift early: This shows that you have put more thought in to your gifting then getting a box of gas station chocolates.
3. Get her something personal not functional: Gifts that show her you get her are great.  Make her something, get her a book by her favorite author, a potted plant, etc.  Don't get her anything that implies you need to clean or cook.
4. Give anything: Nothing is worse than writing off Valentine's Day entirely.  Even if you feel flowers are overdone send her some anyways.  She will be more mad that you did nothing.

MoviePass... Great Way to Save at the Movies But Will It Last?

MoviePass is a relatively new service where you pay a flat $10 fee monthly to see an unlimited amount of movies in theater each month.  If you are a big movie goer this a great deal!  MoviePass reimburses the theaters the full price of the tickets, even if they exceed the fee the customer paid per month.  Consumer experts speculate if MoviePass will be able to sustain this service for long since they take a loss on most popular ticket purchases.  Currently MoviePass has over 2 million subscribers.  MoviePass has banked their profitability on the gym membership design (lots of people pay but few use).  MoviePass has tried to engage in partnerships with theaters to increase MoviePasses profitability (marketing, concessions, etc).  Theaters have not taken to this idea.  Recently MoviePass started cracking down on members who were abusing their MoviePass membership terms-of-service by cancelling their service. The canceled subscribers had been using MoviePass cards at concession stands, to purchase gift cards or even get cash back, or reselling tickets, or ordering multiple cards to buy other people tickets.  Bottom line... if you love movies it might be worth getting in on this while you can.

Your Disney Vacation Now More Expensive

On Sunday, Walt Disney Co. raised admission prices to its theme parks and said it plans to introduce fixed-date ticketing in coming months to help reduce crowding at peak times.  The prices increase vary by location but average around 6%.  Disney advised that they will still have ticket prices that make a "Disney Experience" affordable on any budget.  Look to see higher prices for peak dates/times in near future.

Amazon Delivery Service Coming To You Soon

Amazon is testing out their own home delivery service.  Amazon is going to test this feature in Los Angeles but if it takes off they will expand to other markets.  Now that Amazon owns Whole Foods they have more distribution centers in every major market for a variety of items including fresh groceries.  The biggest challenge Amazon faces is their last-mile delivery.  Currently UPS, USPS and Fedex handle this service for Amazon.  Amazon is exploring their own service to cover this area of delivery.  Bottom line.... Amazon could ramp up a price war with Walmart over this change.
