Having enough non-perishable food on hand is just as important as having enough water during an emergency.  FEMA suggests that everyone's emergency kit have THREE days worth of non-perishable food for each person.  FEMA also suggests that you choose foods your family will eat well,  remember any special dietary needs (or infant needs), avoid foods that will make you thirsty and choose canned foods with high liquid content.

Some suggested items:

  • Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits, vegetables and a can opener

  • Protein or fruit bars

  • Dry cereal or granola

  • Peanut butter

  • Dried fruit

  • Nuts

  • GO HERE for a full list of suggested food items as well as information on food preparation and sanitation while being without power.
